General Questions

What is Onboard Outreach?
Onboard Outreach is a nonprofit organization providing disability-related services across New Jersey. Our services are designed to support independence, dignity, informed choice, and meaningful participation in community life.


Who do you serve?
We serve individuals with disabilities and their families across New Jersey. Services are provided based on eligibility, authorization, and availability.


Are you a nonprofit organization?
Yes. Onboard Outreach, Inc. is a registered 501(c)(3) public charity.

Supports Brokerage
What is Supports Brokerage?
Supports Brokerage is a person-centered service that helps individuals and families understand service options, coordinate supports, and make informed decisions. It focuses on guidance, organization, and follow-through rather than direct service delivery.


Is Supports Brokerage the same as Support Coordination?
No. Supports Brokerage is not Support Coordination or case management. We work alongside Support Coordination Agencies to help ensure services align with real-life needs and goals.


Can Supports Brokerage and other direct services be provided at the same time?
Supports Brokerage is not provided at the same time as direct transportation services. Other services are delivered according to authorization and service guidelines.

 

Transportation Services, Options & Coaching
Do you provide transportation services?
Yes. Onboard Outreach may provide direct transportation services when appropriate and authorized. Transportation is explored through evaluation and informed choice as part of our Supports Brokerage process.


Do you offer different transportation options?
Yes. Transportation needs vary. We help individuals and families understand available transportation options and determine the most appropriate model based on safety, independence, preferences, and approved services.


Is transportation guaranteed?
No. Transportation services are not guaranteed. All services are provided based on eligibility, authorization, and availability.


Community-Based Supports
What are Community-Based Supports?
Community-Based Supports are hands-on services provided by trained Direct Support Professionals (DSPs) to help individuals build skills, increase independence, and participate in community life.


Where are Community-Based Supports provided?
These services are delivered in community settings such as neighborhoods, workplaces, and public spaces—not in institutional or office-based environments.


Direct Support Professionals (DSPs)
What is a DSP?
A Direct Support Professional (DSP) is a trained staff member who provides hands-on, person-centered support to individuals receiving Community-Based Supports.


How are DSPs trained?
DSPs receive training focused on safety, person-centered support, communication, and dignity. Ongoing guidance and oversight are provided.


Getting Started
How do I request services?
You can begin by visiting our Get Support page or contacting us directly. Submitting an inquiry does not guarantee services but allows us to review needs and discuss next steps.


Do I need approval before starting services?
Yes. Many services require authorization through the appropriate funding source or Support Coordination Agency.


How long does it take to start services?
Timelines vary based on eligibility, authorization, and service availability. Our team will communicate clearly throughout the process.


Working With Support Coordinators
Do you work with Support Coordination Agencies?
Yes. We collaborate closely with Support Coordination Agencies to ensure services are aligned, authorized, and person-centered.


Who makes final service decisions?
Final authorization and service approvals remain with the Support Coordination Agency and funding source.
